CREATED FOR A PURPOSE
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

The concept of good works can often be misunderstood. Many of us may be tempted to believe that our acts of service, kindness, obedience or sacrifice somehow earn us God's favor. However, it's important to recognize that faith is not the cause of our justification—it's the means by which we receive it. Our salvation is anchored in God's grace and mercy alone. We bring nothing to the table except our need for a Savior.
Yet, God does not save us only to leave us unchanged. The same grace that rescues us also transforms us. Our faith in Jesus should bring about a visible change in our lives. By proclaiming Jesus as Lord and placing our trust in Him, our actions begin to shift. We no longer perform works out of selfish ambition. Instead, we align our efforts with Christ's mission. The good works we produce are the natural fruit of our salvation.
God's purpose for our good works extends beyond our own lives. We engage in acts of love, mercy, generosity, service and obedience not to draw attention to ourselves or seek glory for our own salvation—which we could never earn—but to be a reflection of Christ and point others to Him. Our lives become signposts that direct others to Jesus.
The works that stem from a Christian's salvation play a vital role in God's redemptive plan. He often uses ordinary believers as instruments of His extraordinary grace. A word of encouragement, an act of compassion, a faithful witness, or a life marked by integrity can all help lead someone closer to Christ.
Good works are demonstrated in gratitude, character and action. Gratitude acknowledges the undeserved gift of salvation. Character reflects the transformative work of the Holy Spirit within us. Action displays God's love through tangible expressions of faith. Together, these elements reveal a life genuinely changed by grace.
APPLICATION: Today, remember that good works didn't save you, but you were saved for good works. God has already prepared opportunities for you to reflect His love and point others toward Him. Walk confidently in those opportunities, knowing that every act of obedience is not an attempt to earn God's favor but a joyful response to the favor you've already received through Christ.
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, thank You for using me in the work of Your Kingdom. What an honor to be a part of the good works You do. I pray You continue to use me for Your glory. I love You. Amen.
